Flies Over Crickets

turtlesong Nov 26, 2003 06:52 AM

I'm wondering if flies have more nutritional value for frogs than crickets. I've discovered this possibility after reading that houseflies are actually embodied with many health benefits even for humans. Of course they do carry salmonelly, but. . .for a frog? What do you think?

I don't think flies are better than crickets - both have a reversed calciumhosphorus ratio - but they are useful in diversifying the diet. Feed flies and crickets (and worms) at alternative feedings, but you'll still have to dust the insects with vitamins/calcium regularly if you don't want deficiencies in your frogs.
