Biting

tessai Nov 26, 2003 07:42 AM

Is it normal for baby ball pythons to bite? I have held it 3 times and twice it bit me. The first time it could have been defensive. The second time she was curled up in a ball in my hand. My thumb happend to be in front of her and she bit it. Do they start to chill out when they get older?

i find my baby snakes are often very snappy (not as much with the ball pythons) especially the angolan pythons, but once they get a bit older and chill out they are all as soft as puppys, none of my older snakes even think about biting.

When they are little, they can be snappy. Just continue to handle it, and all should be well. My girl snapped and even hissed once at me. I bought her from a breeder at the White Plains show, and my guess is that she wasn't handled alot. Now, I can pet her head and she's just as calm as can be.
If you find that your snake is too hard to handle, and you just can't take it anymore, I will be more than happy to take it off your hands. j/k (I love the pieds, and am still jealous!!!)

Did you buy a piebald for your first bp? Good luck, and I hope you don't make any expensive mistakes! I think of a couple of the animals that died because of my inexperience when I first started out...if I had lost a companion AND a few grand, I'd have been inconsolable!
