What are some methods of transporting snakes...

Tigergenesis Nov 26, 2003 10:11 AM

to say the vet, etc.

I was thinking of putting in a pillow case and then for protection sitting that in a cooler (like the hard Coleman or Igloo drink coolers). However, there aren't any holes for ventilation so I'm concerned this might not work.

Any ideas?

Tigergenesis,
. I think they can live for quite awhile inside a cooler but they would eventually run out of oxygen. When I transport I put them in pillow cases and then put them inside a styrofoam lined shipping box with a few airholes. If you have an aquarium store in your area they get their fish shipped to them in these boxes and they will probably either give them to you or sell them to you for a very reasonable price. The reptile wholesalers often ship in the same boxes. The 17x17x10 inch size is the standard of the industry. The styrofoam lining insdie these boxes will insulate the snake from extreme temperatures. If the weather is not too hot or cold and you do not have far to go you can transport snakes in pillow cases alone or in pillow cases inside a duffle bag or a sport bag or even use a plastic storage box.
