from where in enclosure do you use your temp gun

geckoGirlsMom Nov 26, 2003 10:34 AM

Slinky seems to have given up pooping. She is eating, although not a lot. She doesn't appear to be losing weight... plump tail still. But nothing's coming out the other end for over a week. (She's on paper towels, has hides, humid and otherwise.)
I suspect we're not getting the temps right because the weather has been cold (well, cold for California).
We have a UTH attached to a zoo med thermostat. And I have one of those great temp guns to measure. But the reading on the temp gun really depends on where I use it. For ex, from the TOP of the enclosure, pointing at warm side, it only tells me 75ish. But if I go half way into enclosure, I get more like 88 which is what I'm going for. If I get close to the ground (at Slinky height), it's 90 . Where do you hold it when you take your reading?
Any other ideas why she might be constipated? Any suggestions for something to get her back to her daily poop?

Measure your temps on the surface where the gecko's are standing/laying. Keep in mind that this time of year, their metabolism slows down so their food intake will be much less and may stay in their system longer.
