I just need a little reassurance...

It is normal for a beardie not to eat the first 24hrs after i receive him right? But when should i start to get worried? I just got my first beardie yesterday and i am really nervous.

yes, its perfectly normal. its best to more or less leave them alone for the first few days, then start offering food. even then it might take a few more days. im not exactly sure at what point it becomes a problem though

It is normal for them to stress a bit from shipping and being placed in a different enclosure. Some can hold out for a week, but most will start to eat within the first week. I would double check your temps and make sure the basking spot is getting hot enough 105-115 surface temp for small younger dragons. Also if you put the new beardie into a glass enclosure it's a great idea to put up some paper to block the view so it will feel more secure in the new enclosure. I usually keep the paper up for a week or two or until they start to become active and eating normally then I slowly remove it piece by piece so the dragon will gradually get use to the view and the activities and noises in the room. Most breeders use bins and the babies cannot see out to well so a view of a whole room might be a big change for a young dragon and cause added stress. Just make sure the beardie is staying hydrated by dripping water on the nose with a dropper or syringe and letting him lick it off, and offer food daily off course until it becomes sure in it's surroundings. Good Luck with the new beardie. Main things to check that might quicken the dragons acclimation is to make sure it has proper temps, stays hydration, and let it get use to the view of the room and other animals you might have slowly

I'm going to have to try the paper thing. The temps are perfect, right at 107 for the most part. I do have other animals but he can't see them. I guess ill just have to wait him out

I had the same experience with mine. He didn't touch anything for about 3 days and I bugged Lisa to death over it LOL. She kept reassuring me that he'd come around...and he did. It just took a few days. He's an eating machine now!

I dont know if i can hold it together for another three days! I guess ill just have to deal with it. What size tank do you keep yours in? What have you been feeding him/her?

He's in a....well...can't remember right now. Think it's a 20 long...pretty sure it is. I was offering a spring mix bag salad with repcal pellets, but he wasn't touching the salad, so I've quit offering it for now and will try again in a week or two. I started him on silkworms about 4 or 5 days ago and he loooooves those.
