Hello question on purchasing pinkies over the internet.

Mattman Nov 26, 2003 01:34 PM

This will be my first time purchasing pinkies over the Internet. I had my corns for a while, but when I bought them they threw in 25 frozen pinks which they have been eating for a while now. Can you guys help me by suggesting the place where you use to get frozen pinkies on the Internet? Going to be purchasing around 30-40 so I don't have to order a lot and I have them on hand. How long can they last in the freezer before they should not be fed to the snakes? Also when the snakes grow should I offer more food at each feeding or just increase the frequency that they eat? Thanks for your help. I'll post a few pics soon of the corns I got. These are the first snakes I bought in about 10 years and I'm just loving there docile nature. At first I got a Hypo male and a female amel. The next show I went to I picked up two more a ghost female and snow male. These are about as addicting as the bearded dragons I got into a few years back and still am buying and planing to breed this coming spring. Just loving them though. Great little snakes, and thank God they are great eaters too. The only one that turned down a feeding was the ghost, but three days later he ate, and he just ate again when the others where scheduled to eat.

I choose to give my business to Big Cheese Rodent Factory.

I have been keeping snakes for over 10 years and have just recently started getting worse and worse mice at the reptile shows I was attending. The mice would only last a short while and then start to smell. PLUS, they did not look like much for nutritional value and for all I know, they could have been discarded laboratory/experimental mice.

Anyway, I did a bunch of research on the forums about which company most people said great things about and it appeared that Big Cheese Rodent Factory did not have any dissatisfied customers (or at least none posting on the web). They have a web link on the dealers section of this website. Their website has prices so all you have to do is call them. The two large orders of mice I received from them were well-packed and fresh. PLUS the mice looked like they actually had nutritional value (there is a way you can tell).

I can't stress enough how important it is to get quality mice. I regret not doing it sooner since I think some of my snakes MAY have had deficiencies and maybe even stunted growth due to poor quality mice/food.

I am sure there are many excellent companies out there BUT speaking for myself, I will always order from Big Cheese since I have had great experiences with them thus far.

I haven't used Big Cheese, but their prices do look good, and one day I may try them. But the two I have tried, RodentPro and Mice Direct are both good as well. Most sell in quantities of 50-100, and with more than a couple snakes, it makes no sense to buy smaller numbers.

Look forward to some pics

All of the aboved mentioned companies are good, but the thing that kills you is buying mice via the internet is shipping. You are probably better off trying to find a local mice breeder to buy from.

As someone said above, you have to make sure you get good quality stuff. If you find someone local (within driving distance) as to see their setup. The mice should be fairly clean and have plenty of food and water aviable. Do remember though that mice are messy and stink so don't expect the racks to be spotless. They should not have bugs and fungus growing in the cages though.

As far as feeding as they get bigger either option is ok. I usually feed every four days. If one pinkie is not enough try to for a couple of time and then move up to one small fuzzie. Somepeople will tell you to just feed more often, but I have found it you let them stay on the small food for too long they become stubborn and do not want to move up to the larger food.
