Need Help with a cold leo PLEASE

jag Nov 26, 2003 02:04 PM

I just recieved my leo from back east in the mail by ups. I got him and and realized that the sender didnt put a heat packin with him. I took him out as soon as I realized this and he just stuck right to my hand to stay warm. He kept opening is mouth real wide then closed it on and off again. I have him in his setup right now with a UTh and a light too. Should he be ok, or is there anything I can do to help him out. HE IS REAL COLD.

When your leo arrived you should of just let your leo soak up the warmth from your hand or leave it on your desk. The best way to let them warm up is for them to acclimate to the environment by themselves.

By putting it in a tank with a light and an UTH right away when its still cold is a good way to put a leo into shock. Thats not good.

Keep your eye on the gecko and make sure that its ok.

Next time you recieve a gecko through the mail and its cold, let it warm up by itself, whether you let it be, or let it sit on your hand.

Thats good to know. I never had thought about that. How do I know if he is in shock? He seems to be doing good now though. He is walking around his tank looking and licking at stuff.

If your baby was exposed to extreme cold conditions, it should be allowed to come to room temperature gradually over a period of a couple of hours before introducing him to heat. This can cause neurological damage. Also, if he was shipped without a heat-pack, keep an eye on him for respiratory infections.
