What is your opinion of the indoor outdoor thermometer that you can buy at RadioShack and others places? What is the accuracy of them? I have 2 of them in my incubator with a Helix basic unit and all 3 say something different. There is a difference or 2 to 3 degrees.

they are typically very good, and an important tool in reptile husbandry.

as for accuracy, i have found, especially with the Radio Shack models, that as the battery wears down, you get a bigger swing in temps. try changing the batteries, keeping them fresh.

also remember that you can have a 3-4 degree difference between a cage at the top of the rack and the bottom of the rack, or in an incubator, inside/outside the egg box, different egg boxes, etc. : )

They are fairly cheap and worth every penny. Thermometers only show you the temp where they are placed and I doubt their accuracy. With a temp gun you can find out exactly what temps every square inch of the cage is. PE's gun will record the highs and lows also. Best money I ever spent.
