Feeding fruitflies from a moldy culture?

-WiZaRd Nov 26, 2003 04:58 PM

One of my hydei cultures got infested with black mold, but the flies and maggots are still producing. Could I still feed the flies to my frogs even though the culture is moldy?

if the culture is black and its whats called the Black Plague, you should get rid of it immediately. Its a nasty bacteria that will destroy all your other cultures. I would have second throughts about using flies from that culture to feed my frogs.
Their is a product called Propionic acid that will get rid of that bacteria. Its not a mold. try www.jtresser.com/DROSOPHILA.html and look up the chemical. repunzel

I would get rid of it, but I have used the flys out of them before and had not problems. Just becareful not to spread to other cultures by aerosol or by using the same transfer jar.
