resp. infection?

Herb Nov 26, 2003 05:30 PM

Hello. I recently received a seven foot male retic, when I first handled him it was obvious he had a respiratory infection. I increased the temperature and the humidity. Now I can only hear a whistling when I first pick him up, other than that he just exhales loudly every now and then with only a very low whistling once in a while. He's eating, active and alert. I'm wondering if I should wait and see or if it's time to get him to a vet. It's been about two weeks. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Sounds like you're doing exactly what he needs. As long as he's eating, active, and alert, I would probably just watch him closely for any signs of the condition worsening -- like if he starts breathing with his mouth open. If it does get worse then a trip to the vet would be in order.

I have a bci that got a "cold" once which went away after a while without medical treatment. It never was serious but it still took some time before the signs were gone.
