Ok so...I have two more general questions about behavior

audreyj Nov 26, 2003 10:19 PM

Question 1: What does it mean when the bearded dragons sit upright with their mouth open? Is it threatening or does it have to do with heat? Once in a while I have seen my bearded dragons (it's never at the same time) sit upright with their mouths open...But then suddenly they close it and act like nothing happened.

Question 2: One of my babies has some sort of strange behavior. He will sometimes slowly lift his arm and leave it raised in the air,and sometimes (very) slowly rotate his wrist. It is the strangest thing. Is this vet worthy? He does this quite frequently, but now much less than before. btw..he has done this wih both arms/hands.

thanks for any feedback

The gaping (open mouth) is called thermoregulating. It's similar to a dog panting. It is only a problem if your beardie does it constantly. Gaping while basking is normal.

The waving is a submissive gesture (isn't it cute?).
They wave to say "don't eat me, I can see you are much bigger".
