Need help ASAP!!!

Ok now for those of you who read my post here is something further wrong with my Whites Tree Frogs. For those of you that have not my Whites Tree Frogs have been spending large amount of times in the water bowl, 2 days or so. One is no longer doing this and I am beginning to notice reddish and sometimes bloody areas where his toepads begin and in between the toes. No red areas on legs but when he "sleeps" during the day his eyes almost sink in and a pinkish (not clear) flap of what looks like flesh comes up about 1/4 of the way from the bottom of his eye socket. My frogs have been healthy for over 4 months and now they are sick! The other WTF has been in the water bowl for almost 2 days, he is eating normally however this is not his normal behavior... I do not beleive humitity is much of an issue because the conditions of the tank have been constant since the day I got them...

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Kyle

From what you are describing, your frogs are not sick. The appearance of the eye that you are talking about when the frog is sleeping is normal. If you have had the frog for months then I'm quite surprised that you never noticed it before. Now the toes...if they look pink or slightly reddish than there is nothing to worry about. If there is actual blood that you can see coming from the toes or pads than you do have a problem. I don't want to overwhelm you with what to do in that case, so check first. Does the frog have actual wounds on its feet, or do they just look a little pink?

There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours much more.

You can actually see a good amount of RED on the feed, it is not pink. The skin on his eye is NOT normal. I am aware that frogs have a flap that comes over their eye when they sleep but this is different. It is thicker and not by any means see through...

Is there any way you can post a pic? In the meanwhile at least describe you setup in detail. What substrate do you use? How large is the tank? Do you have a heat lamp? Does the frog have access to clean dechlorinated water at all times? I know you dont have a humidity gauge, but does the tank feel moist? We need to know all of these thingsto help, and a picture sure wouldnt hurt.

Tank is a 30 gallon... Set up is bed a beast with a few Pothos Plants in the substates. There is also a piece of driftwood and some plastic tubes from an old Underground aquarium filter that they enjoy climbing on... There is a water bowl WITH dechlorinated water at all days and the water that I mist the tank with is dechlorinated. Water is changed daily. Also on top of the bed a beast is a small covering of Java Moss from an aquarium... Tank seems to be pretty moist but I would not doubt low humidity being a problem... They seem to have been doing fine with it before though...

I will see if I can capture a decent picture of them later on...

Thank you...

Kyle

Sounds like a great set up, the only things i could think of causeing them problems would be the drift wood. where did it come from? there could be a preserative or something on/in it. other than that i would take them for a check up with your vet just to make sure, but it dosent like a serious problem.

Well, bad news, the frog that has not been in waterbowl for the majority of the time died. Found his dead this morning... The other WTF was still in the bowl, I took him out and fed him 3 vitamin dusted waxworms, returned him to the terrarium and now he is acting normal and is not in waterbowl anymore. Everything seems fine accept for the loss of Cheech ...

I will clean out tank later tonight to make sure nothing is left that would make Chong (my now what seems to be healhthy WTF) sick...

Thanks,
Kyle

Get an empty tank or container, set it up with white paper towels, add dechlorinated water to moisten the toweled bottom and a STERILE water dish, and place your frog in it ASAP. Whenever you have any captive die for unexplained reasons remove any survivor and completly disinfect EVERYTHING that the deceased frog has come in contact with, including the entire tank and its contents. Empty the tank, disinfect it (which I assume you know how to do, correct me if I'm wrong) and throw away whatever you cant properly disinfect. This is just a common practice and wise habit to get into. I'm sorry that your frog died, now it is up to you to do whatever you can to save the survivor. I suggest you find a vet and take the lone frog to him/her as soon as possible. If you need help doing so let me know what state you live in.

This could be very important. When was the last time the substrate was change?
How often do you change the water?
Are there any small parisites in the tank?

Substrate was changed about 2 weeks ago, it is bed a beast, there are no small parasite in the tank. Give me some credit here its not like im somebody who just got these Whites' without making sure i knew how to care for them, i've had plenty of different tree frogs before and never had a problem like this...

BTW bad news one of the WTF died, other one is still in water bowl majority of time but he is eating heartily and otherwise seems rather healthy...

Thanks,
Kyle
