nicely and the orange is really starting to show on the scale edges. Sometimes I think that I wish the crossbands would stay and they would grow up looking like they did as hatchlings. But, I really like watching bairds change into adults. Thanks for the pic update Ronda. How's the K corns doing this year? I just have to ask.

Hi Terry,

I have to agree -- I like the juvenile pattern better. However, I've never seen an adult bairdi in person so I'm saving my final opinion until these are all grown! It is definitely fun watching them change though.

I'll email you when I get home this evening with an update on the corns.

sunshine again as an adult when you make that final decision. I love to look at mine when they're in sunlight. They have all kinds of colors and shades on their scale edges as adults. The adults can look different at times and you might think you are looking at a different snake each time. I'm not kidding. I don't like seeing the crossbands and blotches fade out, but I don't miss them as much when I see what developes. Bairdi is the only native snake to exist in both striped and transverse crossbars or blotches at different times in its life.

It sure is looking sharp, Ronda. I'll try to post pics of my 22-month-olds soon.

Hi Rhonda...very nice bairdi!! I think it will turn out nice because of the amount of orange/red coming in between the scales...especially on the head.

Where did you get it? any pictures of the parents, it looks like VIVID Stock.

Hi Ken,

Wow, you're good! Yes, he is from Vivid stock. My female has lots of orange/red coming in as well, but the overall gray color is much darker. The photos of the parents might be on Vivid's site, but I don't know which ones. Thanks for the compliment -- I can't wait to see how these turn out!

There are a few Bairdi lines that are recongnizable, not many. VIVID is one of the best. Especially if you like locality animals. Numerous e-mails with Terry Parks, Joe Forks and Tom Lott has transpired over the years that help in blood line identification. Most importantly, I want one! (ha) Living in Boerne, TX (next to the Eastern County were they are found) makes me always want to collect one. Maybe this week, it has rained ....have a freind in Utopia (Should just get one from VIVID) and at the time my wife has given your Oky Doky to go out hunting LOL! Right now I have 1.0 Large HWY 277, 1.1 Adam Block yearlings (Alot more silver with less red than yours), 0.1 Loyd Lemke Stock (nice blue silver), 0.2 Fort Davis that are getting alot of red between the scales. We will see..... Nice snake Rhonda, keep us posted on his development!!

Ken
