update on the pellet question

valerie Nov 27, 2003 01:49 AM

Well i finally got down to the petstore and bought some box turtle pellets. I got the Zoomed box turtle/tortoise pellet. Looks to be good stuff but i was wondering about how to feed it. I had been feeding low fat dog kibble before and i soaked it before feeding, well i tried soaking the zoomed pellets and they jsut crumbled to nothing.

SO is it ok to feed the zoomed pellets dry?

My instincts tell me that a turtle might not find it palatable. Does the package offer any suggestions? If not, maybe combining with other foods that do have a moisture content will strike a balance, like chopping up a little fruit or veggies and adding the pellets.

it doesn't say anyhting on the package. I fed some last night and she ate a few of them.

Its kind of a weird pellet, it looks like rabbit pellets.COmpressed little sticks.

Since hse tried eating them dry maybe next time i will jstu spray them with a bit of water and see if that works.

Yeah rehydrate them. And take Andy H's suggestion and add calcium powder to the water first. Use warm water, The pellets will absorb some.
I do have three boxies that will eat them dru though, But all are the kind that eat anything.

But the problem with adding water to these pellets is that they disintegrate as soon as the get wet,They dont' jsut puff up like other pellets when wet.

Mabye i will soak them so they fall apart then mix taht onto the veggies.
