Nice pastel. What line is he?

Here's my big boy. Also hatched in june, just shed and emptied today, and weighs in at 647 grams. He is a VPI line. I have a late 02 female het pied tipping the scales at 1320 grams on empty. I'm crossing my fingers.

So are you planning on crossing the Pastel with the het pied?

If there is anything to the pied het sign and your line has it then it sounds like a shortcut for making pied combos. Just pick out the pied het looking pastels and you probably have double hets without going the extra generation to produce and grow up a pied first. Of course at only 1 in 8 double het male (if all the hets even show) it's still a bit of a long shot to get a pastel het pied stud to breed back to the pied het.

Or do the pastels have special belly markings that might interfere with the pied het sign?

What is the pied het sign? Or is that a breeder secret? I'd like to see some Pastel Pieds.

JMHO, FWIW, YMMV.

Actually, I have a het pied male too, but he is very shy and only weighs about 500 grams. He is a late '02 hatchling, but I'm going to try him anyway.

I eventually want to produce a pastel pied, so if I produce any from eith clutch, most will stay.......all of the females from the pied breeding(and any pieds), and any pastel females produced.

As far as the pied marker, I'm not really buying into it. I got my animals from Tom this year, and the male has the strong crisp black lines, but the female is a broken black-lined pattern.......not as described by most as being the marker. I'm just hoping to produce at least one pied. Wich me luck.
