How long can a Ball Python go with a respiratory Infection???

peterfranklin Nov 27, 2003 10:29 AM

My snake definitely has a respiratory infection, but I don’t know when I can get to my vet due to the holiday.
I called the emergency clinics and they all said they don’t deal with snakes.
I’ve bumped up the heat, but if I can’t get to a vet till next Monday can she possibly hold out that long??
I’m going to try to get hold of my regular vet Friday and Saturday, but I have no idea if he will be open.
Thanks to anyone who replies.

Probably depends on how bad the infection is... My little guy is just "clicking" (no wheezing or discharge). I took him to the vet after a week and they said to just increase the heat and humidity, if it gets worse or doesn't improve within another week or so, he will go on antibiotics.

I have no idea if this helps or not

Thanks ckw it does help a little.
I've only been keeping snakes a few years, and this is the first time I’ve had a snake with a respiratory infection. She has labored breathing with a gurgling sound, although not open mouth breathing. She is not producing mucus out of her nostrils, but when I massaged under her throat while trying to get her mouth open, mucus did come out of her mouth.
She is between 1500 and 1600 grams (I haven’t weighed her in a while), maybe being older will help.
Thanks again
Peter

I don't want to scare you but I lost my little chondro last night to what did not appear to be a very bad URI. He was barely clicking. We were giving him Baytril and we increased his heat but we still lost the little guy.
