Veiled acting odd-wandering

speedracerbecki Nov 27, 2003 12:01 PM

Hi everyone My female veiled cham has been pacing her cage since yesterday morning, down one side, across the bottom, up the opposite side, across the top (with a stop in her basking spot) and on and on... She did stop to go to sleep and she's not quite so determined today, but it was really wierd. Any ideas what might be going on? Nothing's changed about her cage or anything. I don't know how old she is but isn't full grown yet. Any ideas would be much appreciated!
I hope everyone is having a good Thanksgiving!

Pehaps she's gravid? A lot of chams wander around when theyre ready to lay eggs. Does she look "fat" or can you see egg-like protrusions in her belly area?

She doesn't appear to be gravid. That was my first thought too but she doesn't look overly fat or lumpy. She's about 7 inches (body, not tail)long, I don't know how old she is but she isn't full grown yet, does that matter?
I think I'll let her wander around some if I can find a good plant for her and see it that settles her any.

what i have done is hang a pothos of ficus from the ceiling and off to the side of the cage. if i use a pothos i leave the door to the cage open and drape one of the vines on the inside of the doorand let the chameleon come and go as he wants. the ficus i just hang lower or use a stick from the top of the cage to the potas it hangs. this has worked very well after i bring them in from a day in the sun. they usually dont want to go back in and will pace the cage but doing this they always go back in after an hour or so. when i use the hanging plants just as an "escape"just a chance to get out of the cages)for them they will spend most of the day going in and out. my cross loves it! he goes right out to the front and watch over the room as if he is watching his kingdom!
