corns dying need help.

toppy Nov 27, 2003 01:01 PM

I HAD three snow corns all about 270 - 300g snakes , 38 to 40 inches in legnth. a month and a half ago the smallest female decides to stop eating. I tried all the tricks but no luck after three weeks she's dead. I figure she was sick so the not eating is part of the symptoms. I clean the rack that the corns are in out ( only holds three sweater boxes) and throw out all of the dead females stuff. I begin to brumate my remaining two corns. so the female and male dont eat for 16 days ( clean them out )
next day right before I put them in the cooler the females lithargic, weak no energy or muscle stregnth. I keep the heat @ 82 degrees ( dont cool her ) and try to feed her, nothing! wont eat one day later shes dead. she died with her mouth wide open
and her body in a somewhat twisted fashion.
Now I have no female left only one male so I keep him warm try to feed him and he wont eat. seems healthy stregnth wise and movement wise. how long can snake go without eating if hes not cooled? I transfered him out of the rack to a 29 long tanks with proper temps light and hides everything.I need to get him to a vet but its the holidays and It could be a week before I can do it (Work and holidays) he has not eaten now since november 1st and I have kept him warm to try to keep him healthy ( instead of cooling him) any suggestions would be great
thanks chris

Take him to the vet and both of the dead snakes. Have him checked out and necropsies done on the dead females to determine exactly what they died off. It could be several things, especially since your temps are alright.

If a snake is otherwise healthy, three weeks without eating (especially this time of year) is no big deal at all. But there certainly was something else going on with your other two, so a vet trip will, indeed be in order. Good luck, and sorry about losing the others. Hope this one pulls through. Duffy
