breeding problem?

soph Jun 01, 2003 06:06 PM

Is there such a thing as a pair of leopard gecko not being compatible for breeding? Could one of them have a fertility problem? If so, is there a reason for it? I've added a female to my male in March and I did see them mate at first when I introduced them to eachother, but my female still hasn't shown any signs of being gravid up to now. Once in a while I see my male following her around and he looks like he wants to mate, but my female always seems to run away and doesn't look interested at all. If I haven't had any luck by now, would you say I'll probably never have eggs? I was so hoping to breed them! Could it be something that I'm not doing right, habitat wise that could affect their breeding? (I always keep a container with damp moss in it hoping she'll lay someday)They both eat well and seem happy too. My male is about 10 inches and around 1 1/2 years old and my female is close to 9 inches and 3 years old. (the person I got my female from even said she was a good breeder! Could it be because she maybe bred too much in the past? ) I'm sorry for the big message! I would just like to know why they're not breeding! thanks a lot!

I've read that some leos are not well for breeding concerning being incubated at certain temperatures when they were in the egg?

Interresting! It could be it, who knows! The person I got it from said she was good for breeding, but he might of lied...Maybe he just wanted to get rid of her cause she had that problem.

How old is your female? You may have gotten a retired breeder who is no longer fertile.

You mean "hot females" atleast i think. I doubt this is the problem, because hot females ARE able to breed, its just that it takes longer for them to reach sexual maturity, atleast thats what everyone says. So, the problem might be with your male? I also heard some males arent able to reproduce, called duds, lol. So thats one possibility. How long has it been since you saw them mate? When my female was on her 4 clutch, i thought she had stopped, didnt look gravid at all, but wham, out comes two eggs. So it could either be your males a dud or you just cant tell your females gravid. Hope this helps,
MaC

Oh it's been around a month or a month and a half since I saw them mate...but my male always seems to want to mate but I don't think she wants to. I see him chasing her often but she couldn't care less it seems.
