Baby Yellowfoot Diet

thelord Nov 27, 2003 08:06 PM

Hi ya'll,
I have a baby yellowfoot tortoise. I feed him a mix of collard, mustard, and turnip greens sprinkled with calcium. Is this enough of a well rounded diet when he is young? I heard if you feed them protein as a baby their shell may get messed up. Any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

As so many posts on this site attest it is important to offer as varied diet as possible. I have an 11-month old redfoot that I have been raising since new hatchling. I also have a 10" yellowfoot. Both of these tortoises love the Mazuri commercial diet and are offered it frequently if not everytime they are fed. Neither of these "foots" are showing any shell deformities such as pyramiding. I also offer fruit variety along with greens. Their favorite is papaya. I also grow many different kinds of dandelions, grasses and the like. Both of these tortoises are outside in their respective gardens when weather permits. They love the rain and the sunshine. I hope you will post a picture soon of your yellowfoot so we can all admire it along with you. Good luck and enjoy your fabulous tort.
