Swolen "bump" on the side of my RESs' face

jpeg Nov 28, 2003 01:48 AM

I bought this paticular female RES Petsmart back when I worked there about a year ago. It's had several health problems since then, but we've been able to solve them. Recently it has got a swelling on the side of it face(right below it's "red-ear" It hasn't been acting any different or like it's in any type of pain. It has always been a sickly turtle and dosen't eat much other then crickets and ReptoMin. It's health has defiantly improved since i got it. I'm wondering if this swelling may be some sort of bacterial infection or a tumor perhapse? Any thoughts would help.

It sounds like it could be an ear abcess which requires a trip to the vet. There are tons of posts here about ear abcesses, seems to be a pretty common problem.

Yes, this is an like an ear infection and will require a trip
to the vet to have it lanced. I went through this with my
Painted Turtle many years ago and it required the vet to put
him under and lance it. I had to keep him dry except for about
30 minutes 2 times/day I could put him in clean water for
rehydration and to eat but he was not allowed to totally
submerge. It had to be left open (no stitches) so that I
could clean it and put antiobiotics on it 2 times/day.

I am happy to say that I have never had the problem again and
my guy that had it is healthy as ever.

It sounds like you are doing a great job with this RES
