Get the 160, he's certainly not going to get smaller and need
less. That's what I got for Teddy. Just make sure you don't
overheat a small enclosure - I don't know what you've got him
in. You could always raise the bulb a bit higher if it's
too warm.

or is this brand better?

They are the same bulbs or technology.
Again, I'd suggest trying the first one you posted.

I've got 3 bulbs that are going into their 4th year.
I just replaced one that lasted a month.
Go figure.

Well, it seems like you really have a choice. It looks like a good company and a pretty good deal considering that is the price you pay in a shop and you don't have to go out and get it.
These are all basically the same bulb.
What you are looking for is 'self ballasted mercury vapor' bulbs. There seems to be a good number of companies poping up now. Hopefully this will drive prices down.
I'd suggest the 160 Watt Flood. The bulbs are strange in that the heat is not thrown very far.

Here in Ottawa, Canada, the only brand I can get is T-Rex.
So far the ones I bought lasted 1 month (was replaced by the store), 5 weeks (was not replaced by the store), 7 months (record!) and 5 months.
I really want to use them, but at 80$ a bulb this is getting very costly.
Has anybody else experience with the T-Rex brand? Would I be better off having another brand shipped from the States, which would be even more costly, but might be worth it, if it lasts longer?
I know, that T-Rex garanties their lamps for one year, but you only get the cost replaced on a 'remaining months' basis, and of course I would need to ship the broken lamp to the States first. Didn't get around doing that yet.
Any input on 'good' brands would be appreciated!
Thanks, Gaby
