help with drippers

taralynn_hughes Nov 28, 2003 01:46 PM

We need help setting up Roan's drip system. If it drips on pothos leaves, he eats the leaf instead of licking it off the leaves. That requires daily moving of the plant and re setting up the dripper in a slightly different spots. And then the plant gets eaten real quick. If it drips on fake leaves he doesn't notice it/care.

I would like to know how you have yours set-up, and how the water drips. Is it better if the water pools on the leaves, or just a drip?

Thanks

Hi-

I use an automatic misting system for both my indoor and outdoor cages to provide both misting and a water source. The mister is set in the middle of the cage and mists over the ficus and umbrella trees in the cages. The mist is very fine and collects on the leafs. As the drops grow in size they start to run off the leafs and trickle down through the tree. The chameleons will drink usually after the mister turns off.

If you are using a dripper I would drip the water on to a plant that can tolerate its roots being wet all of the time. A good choice would be the pothos, but you are having troubles with your chameleon eating that plant, and another would be the Umbrella tree. Hope this helps!
