WHAT KIND OF SUBSTRATE

hi, im thinking of getting a uro but ive heard it is very hard to maintain a proper diet for a baby, i dont know if i should get a baby or an adult

If i should get a baby what would be the best substrate
OR
If i should get an adult what would be the best substrate(sand??? what type)

ive never had a baby uro but do have an adult,to me its pretty easy but ive been keeping reptiles on and off for 10yrs.

they eat veggies like kale,collard greens,peas,squash,shredded carrots,ect.

as for substrate i use topsoil,i give him almost a foot of it to make burrows in and use flat stones under his basking spot to retain heat for him to use after the light goes off.

they need really high temps in the 115-130F range on his hot spot and about 90 on his cooler side.
