Never Feeding Live (iv seen pic.)

rttlrvenom Nov 28, 2003 07:29 PM

i have been against feeding live after speeking to people what have said not to. But i was flipping through some old posts and i came across one that had a link of some really nasty pics. of snakes that were attacked while being fed live mice. after seeing that there is no way im ever gonna feed live. the risk of loosing a beautyful animal like some of these morph corns is just to great.

I agree with you in the fact that feeding live can be dangerious, but never say never. When you get one of those just perfect new babies that will not eat frozen what do you do. Two options let it die or give it a live pinkie. With a little work after they have packed away quite a few meals they can be converted before their is any danger.

Feeding live pinks or fuzzies poses no health risk to the snake, therefore I dont even consider this dangerous. Feeding live adult prey are the concerns people are talking about. I have a hatchling prairie king that will not touch a F/T pink, but put a live one in with it and the pink is gone in a few seconds!

Sooner or later your going to get a snake that refuses dead rodents period.I do sometimes feed live but im right there watching.I can sometimes get away with a fresh killed tease feed.I work part time at a petstore so i feed fresh killed to all my snakes now.My wife has never been happier not having 20 pounds of rodents in the freezer....Paul
