housing chameleon pairs

burnham Nov 28, 2003 08:14 PM

I know that with many species of chameleons you cannot house a male and a female together. I was wonder if jacksons chameleons are the same way, or whether you could house a breeding pair together?
Thanks

If you have a large enough cage with lots of cover. In general the same rule aplies as with panthers and veilds better to house them separate..

No...they should not be housed together. If you have a large enough enclosure then that means you have more than enough space for two cages. Housing them together will inevitably mean that the male will take over the cage, get the good basking spot, the lions' share of the food, etc. This will be detrimental to the female. If you want a breeding pair, then the best bet is to get two enclosures to raise two happy, healthy chams.
