Brumation and Meds

maneatingorchid Nov 28, 2003 08:47 PM

My mali Uro, Embrodak, had hookworms, and I just gave him his last dose of meds on tuesday. The meds were Panacur. My problem is I did notihng to induce brumation yet, because he's only nine months old, and he was on meds. A week after the first dose of Panacur, he started brumating on his own. Now, it's a week later, and he's still being lazy and not eating much. I need a fecal sample to get an all-clear from the vet, but how am I going to get one if he's sleeping a bunch and hardly eating? Is this brumating OK for him right after being medicated, or should I stop him?

I'm not sure if there's anything you can do about his brumating on his own. If he's still eating a bit, you might want to give him some peas to help fatten him up after that bout with the hookworms. I think someone mentioned "probiotics" on here as well, but I'm not sure about that one. He should eat peas readily and it'll help get his weight back up.

Glad your uro is doing better
