How do you give acidophilius (good bacteria) after meds?

deetu Nov 28, 2003 09:54 PM

I have been using human capsules and sprinkling it on one cricket but it doesn't stick as well as vitamins do. Is there a better product made for lizards? Maybe a paste? I've seen it for birds (BenBac) Thanks

In capsule form, use 1/3-1/2 a capsule of this count and dust the crickets with it or disolve in water and feed with an eye dropper.

in Gel/liquid capsule form give 3-5 drops daily of that count

Unless it has active bacteria in it, it will not do much good for the dragon (you can tell if it does as it would have to be refrigerated)

Like Bennett pointed out Acidophiliz made by Pet Authority and sold in Pet Chain stores is a good product and meets the restoring bacteria in their digestive tract that medications wipe out as far as we can tell. I have not used the benebac, so don't know to say about it

Since encouraging people and Vets for the past six months on a bearded dragon medical list, to use this with medications, there have been no new reports of YFD..... we prior we were seeing it a common problem.

I had 2 Beardies that were showing symptoms of YFD that would get better but then come back. They also had pinworms coccidia and giardia. a two week treatment of parazap didnt solve it. they were kept in quarantine and went the medical route, flagyl, panacure and albon combined with pedialite and acidophiliz. used nolovasan to clean the enclosure 2-3 times a day as well as the Beardies. All better now. no bugs no fungus.

Oh my, I am a dunce! I have been using Acidophiliz as my baby is on Albon. I did not look to see if it needs to be refrigerated! I have had it for two weeks!! I will be buying a new bottle today. Man, I read the label to see how to use it, but you would think I should have looked for that! I hope I have not done any harm. My baby is eating alot better though.
