Considering getting a Pacman...

in2deep Nov 28, 2003 11:19 PM

Hi all. I'm considering getting a pacman, which'll be my first non-furry animal other than fish. I've been doing a lot of research reading care sheets, and the postings here on kingsnake. I've got 2 questions...
1. Just how much noise do these things make?
2. Can anyone recommend someone to order one through? The only stores around here are Petsmart and Petco. I refuse to buy anything there...

Thanks in advance for any input.

Only males make any real noise. But even my males were fairly quiet with the exception of certain summer nights when they croaked a few time. But it wasn't like a constant croaking... Just short croaks that didn't last all that long and then silence. They were fairly loud, but I slept through it a lot according to friends that occasionally stayed over, so they weren't that loud. Females do not really make any noise at all. Overall, they are fairly quiet compared to many other species. Andy

Horned frogs usually don't make that much noise, in my experience. I had one male that would occasionally vocalize, but it was rare, because they usually spend most of their time buried in the substrate and are quiet then.
I am sure that a few other people on this board can point you to a good breeder. I congratulate you on not wanting to buy from petco; many times they keep their animals in horrible conditions! But you made the right choice there.
HFs are a really cool, quiet pet to have. Much less noisy than other frog species!

I agree with everyone. I have a pacman that I'm fairly certain is a female & she has NEVER made a sound. They're great frogs. I'd recommend you check the classifieds here at Kingsnake. Good luck
