Eating Dirt & Sticks?

herpersteve Nov 28, 2003 11:33 PM

My 6 month old panther chameleon (nosy be) has been eating dirt occasionally. It's a hibicus plant, and the potting material is fertilizer free and vermiculite free, so that's not a problem. I've also seen him chewing on a branch.

I give him calcium D three times a week, and I give him herptivite once a week. So, I don't think it's because he wants vitamins.

Does anyone have an idea why he would be eating the dirt?

Never had any eat dirt, but we have had several eat dried leaves and small twigs. We changed their suppliments and this stopped.
