Marine Toad ID-pics

John S. Nov 29, 2003 10:39 AM

Hello,
First time posting in the toad forum but I have been reading for a while now. I purchased two toads recently, about 3" each, that were sold as marine toads. The parotid gland seems small for marine toads so thought I would bring a pic to the forum for opinions.

I attached the link in case the pic does not show.

Thanks
John S.

John, you can send me the pics directly, or, I can send you a detailed description/closeups of Marinus.

How to get your wife to like toads; 1.Get a male toad. 2.Get him to hug your wifes wrist (amplexus). 3. Tickle him so he chirps in protest. 4.Say "Awww, he likes you". Note; Make sure he pees first or you may receive bodily harm during this procedure.

My juvies (thanks Alex) also have small parotoids. They could easily be mistaken for American toads. About the only way you can tell them apart at this size (2"-3" is the size/shape/location of their cranial crests.

Sorry to keep replying to this post but every time I hit "post message" I remember something else. Marinus also has a tendancy to hop/stand/walk/generally parambulate in a more upright posture. Some times they look like they are sitting so upright, they look like they are on their fingertips with their elbows locked.
