Wohoo, finally changed the substrate...

fruitionx Nov 29, 2003 11:40 AM

Yay, i just changed the substarte in my tank for the adults. I went from Sand to the mix posted by Robyn. It looks pretty cool. Rico and his girlfriend are checking it out right now. Rico has already eaten and now they are basking. They were a little shocked i think when i put them in. They just sat there and looked around. Right now it is a little damp, i put too much water in but i assume soon it will dry out a bit. just wanted to share and i will post updates.
Thanks for that Robyn!
And good luck to anyone else trying it!

Changed mine as well!! Added more dirt, and some vermiculite, the sand was already in there. And some moisture. The three juvies are very active, but surprisingly not digging! Except for near their heat rocks. They love to dig under them (and yes, they are on the bottom of the tank so as not to move!). I added dirt to Jakes cage as well, but he hasn't come out to check it out yet. He is still hiding. Bought some more Plexiglas to close up the tops of the cages, and that has helped to warm them up. Will post more pics as I get them.

Thanks, Robyn!

I changed my substrate on wednesday, and I'm very glad I did, I think my uro is too. Thursday night I saw him go into his hide, and I thought he was just going to sleep, then I heard him digging, next thing I know theres a little head sticking out of the dirt two or three inches away from his hide, he looked around a bit, then went back into his hide. Seeing that made all the work to get and make the soil mix worth it.
