Disposable water/food dishes - who uses them and where to get them?

Rob Jenkins Nov 29, 2003 01:50 PM

I've been thinking of getting some disposable water and food dishes. The food dishes need to be deep enough a mealworm won't be able to crawl out of and have slick sides, and the water bowls should be wider than tall, but not too large (1-3" diameter). I've read some use petri dishes for food, but haven't a clue where to look for them. Anyone know where I can get some in bulk?

Thanks

I've seen them on eBay in lots. I use what I think of as the 'normal size' about 3 1/2 inches across. They're only about half or 3/4 an inch high and full grown mealies can get out. Small ones do fine. There is a larger size of petri dish that may have higher sides.

Good luck Rob.

. . . and see if it works.

In the new "Rhac" book - they have a picture of how Sandfire Dragon Ranch feeds and waters their geckos. They use one of those little samplerl cups - about 2 inches high - the kind of container they use at grocery stores to give out samples. I am going to try them for water and food - but I need to make a little base out of wood for them.

You can get them at Sam's Club.

Sounds good. I have a Costco membership, I'll look there. I know the pic you're talking about. I got the Rhac book at the Philly show and I think the pics alone are worth the price of the book. Thanks for the ideas, I'll go check it out as soon as I can get over there.

i use these clear condiment cups i found at walmart next to the ashtreys they are about 1 1/2 inches wide and theres one size that is about an inch and a half tall. they work great for food and water....full grown mealworms cannot get out of the tall ones and supers stay in them pretty well also with maybe 1 or 2 escaping. The big ones cost about 60 cents each and the small ones 50 cents.....hope this helps
