Is Zoe going senile? (pics)

icequeen Nov 29, 2003 02:47 PM

This morning I woke up at 5. I came downstairs to get a drink, and as always I checked on my babies, Zoe and Dill.
I found Zoe hanging upside down from his dead schefflera, sound asleep.
As time goes on, and he gets older (he's now THREE!) his sleep positions are becoming more and more...odd.
I had to take a couple pictures just to prove to myself that I wasn't imagining it.

When I got up, later in the morning, I immediately went over to Zoe's cage to see if he was still there...hanging upside down. I couldn't see him anywhere. I searched all around the top part of his cage. He has never gone below the top foot and a half of his cage since he moved in. I had a horrible sense of dread, thinking ohhh no...he's down on the bottom of his cage. Which for Zoe, will mean that he's sick. I removed the material that covers the bottom four feet of his cage (to prevent the cats from staring at him, or climbing the cage).
Well, there was poor Zoe...perched on the very top of the schefflera he has refused to have any thing to do with. I could of been imagining it, but he looked confused, and embarrassed. As though he had no idea of where he was, and was afraid to go exploring.
I opened the cage door, and extended my hand to him. He didn't hiss or try to back away...he immediately climbed up my arm. I lifted him up to the area where he usually sits during the day, and away he went, climbing right back up to his usual spot.
Then…he promptly turned his head toward me and HISSED at me!!!!
There’s gratitude for you!!!

I’m thinking he must of fallen while he was sleeping. I wondered how he could sleep like that, just hanging on with three feet and his tail. You’d think that once he fell into a deep sleep, he’d relax and let go. Maybe that’s what happened last night.

I’m going to have to get him some soft cushy plants to land in if it should happen again. I wouldn’t want him to get hurt on the landing.

I don't really think that he's going senile (at least I don't think I really believe that...maybe I do?) he's just such a character!

Silly old cham!
