Female still not gravid...

BeArDyCrAzY Jun 01, 2003 08:14 PM

I have a 1.2 leo group. (females are bout 2 years of age/male is about 1 year old) The male has been in the same tank with the female for about 2 and a half weeks now. I've been looking at my female and she still doesn't show any sign of being gravid. (I removed the male) What could the problem be?

sometimes it takes longer than that. for whatever reason generally the females arent receptive right off the bat. I had a couple of tangs that took a month or more to get gravid....... and i know it wasnt my male. just be patient and give them some time leave them been for a while and everyonce and a while check to see if the female is producing folicies.

"producing folicies" what are folicies?

ROI3IN Jun 01, 2003 09:29 PM

folicies are when they first start to produce eggs, at this stage they generally arent fertilized yet. males will stimulate the females sexually into producing them. leos dont just have eggs inside waiting to be fertilized... and as far as i know they do not go into any type of menstration thus they need to be stimulated into producing the eggs.. when these eggs are first being produced they are known as folicies and like i said earlier generally arent fertilized until they move farther down into the body... however you can see the beginings of the folicies by turning the gecko on its back. its very siimilar to looking for eggs but its usually a redness and swelling around where a belly button is. you cant see the eggs yet but its a good sign you will soon
