Some Crazy Candoia - PICS

Ophidiophile Nov 29, 2003 10:04 PM

About 13 years ago, I had an incredible collection of Candoia. I was completely striken with the Genus, and set out to collect odd specimens. I don't have photos of much of the collection but I did just find and scan in the two below.

This first one was purchased as a bibroni bibroni from Fiji, however every Fijian that I have seen since has been some shade of red or brown. This guy was a purpley grey with black diamonds. It had a much shorter and chunkier head than any bibroni I've seen since, but had the usual Candoia angulate rostral. I tried for a long time to find a match for him and was unsuccessful. Here he is:

I have other photos of him if anyone is interested.

This second photo was a female import Solomon Island Ground Boa owned by a friend of mine but which I was caring for. She was a patternless slate grey with a transluscent-like red outline to her vertebral zig-zag and bluish inside of it. She was over 5 feet long, easily the biggest SIGB I've ever seen:

Hope you enjoyed these oddities.

She was wild-caught as an adult, so her age is unknown.
