Mexican Black Kingsnake will not eat!

Passport Nov 29, 2003 10:07 PM

I see lots of posts like this one but out of concern for the little snake I will post again on this subject. I purchased him at reptile show on the 15th of Nov. He is quite small, very active in his shoebox but refuses to eat anything offered to him. I've tried braining, also removing the head of the pinkie and also offered live pink. NO interest whatsoever. I'm not sure that he has ever eaten. Email from the breeder suggests that I may have a husbandry problem. But all parimeters check out OK. He is kept as I keep my other hatchling corns and kings. I believe this is quite unusual for this species as they are opportunistic feeders and usually have an excellent feeding response. But not this little guy. Please give me some more suggestions as to how to encourage him to try some food. Thanks.

I'm not sure about mexican, but our california kingsnake wouldnt eat pinkies, even though the pet shop claimed he did. Finally we threw an anole in there and he took it down immediately. to this day he doesnt eat pinkys, although he takes down small mice. The first 5-6 meals were anoles though. Hope this helps....

I wonder if it could be related to the change in the seasons. I am having the same problem with a GBK I purchased 15 days ago that still has not eaten. Another week and I may consider brumation. That or just give him the anole I have been trying to scent with!
