A ? about noserubs with pic>>>>More

Here is a pic of my big girls noserub that i got the other night. Its actually gotten worse than it was (as far as looks).I've put some triple antibiotic on it to try and start the process of healing but i'm not sure if thats actually more of a hinderance than a help.I've doctored noserubs before but nothing this severe. Her nostrils are actually scabbed over to the point where she has to breathe through her mouth. My main ? i guess is will the nostrils (once the wound is healed) still be there for her to breathe normally or will they be gone?I know it may be a stupid sounding ? but like i said i've doctored noserubs before but nothing this severe.Shes in shed in the pic,but after she gets done shedding if the triple antibiotic is helping then i'll keep doctoring if not then can you recommend a treatment to help.I'm more than likely going to take her to the vet for a complete checkup but that wont be until next week so i figured that here would be the best place to get an idea until then. Anyway thanx for the help. Regards Bill McLeod

A few years ago i had a female do that on a screen faced cage. When i took her to the vet he gave me shots of something to give her and told me to use toothpicks to keep the nostrils open. I have no idea what the shots were for but that was 15 years ago but the toothpicks worked great for reopening the nose. What i found that helped it out was soaking her in water for 20-30 minutes to soften the scab tissue. Hope this helps Paul
