Moved my balls to Sterilite tubs

Passport Nov 29, 2003 10:39 PM

This morning I had to soak and then rub with wet towel my male Ball Python, Basket, to remove his shed. My pair had each been living in a 20gal long aquarium. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the humidity increased for him or my female, Lucille. So this afternoon I went to Lowe's and purchased a fantastic ( I think) Sterilite tub with a locking lid that seems tight everywhere with just the two locks on each end. I don't even have to use any clips or clamps anywhere on them. The lid design is the best I've ever seen. They have great depth to them and although not crystal clear I can see thru them and view the setup inside. They are tall enough that they can have their climbing branches too. I'm hoping that from now on they both will shed in one piece without assistance from me. If you are interested, I'll post some pics.

Sounds great. How are you going to heat the tubs, specifically what brand heaters and thermostats?

Thanks,
Mark

I am using human heating pads from Walmart. And they are working quite well to keep their temps at the required temperature. There is ample room for thermoregulation as the pads are only under one end of the tub. It's the way I have raised hatchling corns and kings with success only, of course, with smaller boxes. These tubs are sitting on a wire shelf bookshelf and I know they will be so much easier to clean and move around. Hopefully, I'm done forever with glass acquariums for snakes.

I have all my snakes in rubbermaids and love them
but you shouldn't be "done with tanks forever"
I think its fun to keep one nice display tank with live plants and all that
to keep up hummidity for mine I use plexiglass as the lid
with a whole cut out of it and chicken wire for the heat lamp
then i drilled small holes for vents
it works great and looks very nice!
