P. bicolor- at last!

andersonii85 Nov 29, 2003 11:02 PM

I have kept P. bicolor for quite some time now and had the hardest time trying to get them to breed. My friends would often joke with me how they would not even try and got them to breed. HaHa! I have gotten my first fertile clutch. All it took was moving the pair in a tank right smack next to the P. aurotaenia. The male aurotaenia's call triggered the male bicolor to finally start calling himself and now I have what looks like fertile eggs. Thought I would share this for all of you who have similar frustrations.

Cheers,

Very cool,
My Bicolors are only about 7 months old but they are some of my favorite frogs.I have talked to a few people and they have told me that they had to get their bicolor fed up on waxworms for them to reproduce.Good luck with them.If you have a few aurotaenias availiable this spring get hold of me,I'd love to have some.
Take care,
Mark W.

It's funny that none of my bicolor ever were interested in waxworms. They took some silk worms once; however, I choose to keep them well fed with 1/4" crickets. This seems to do the trick. I have bred the aurotaenia in the past; however, the male died and now I'm trying a new male. He is young and has yet to fertilize a whole clutch...usually just one or two eggs. I will definately let you know when I have some.

Enjoy,
