Worried - Where are the rest of the eggs?!!

Lilia Nov 30, 2003 12:30 AM

My lizard laid two eggs today. No more, no less.

This is the first time she lais such few eggs. Typically she will lay about 7.

I have heard the egg(s) can get 'stuck' inside the lizard, thus putting her health (life even) at a high risk. So I'm a bit concerned.

Is it possible for lizards to only 'make' such a small number of eggs? What are some signs I should be looking for? How can I help my girl if in fact she is in trouble?

YOur help is as always much appreciated!

Is your girl acting lethargic, sick, any signs of extreme weakness ? Can you feel any eggs in her? Any lumps?

If yes to any of these, I suggest ya get some professional help, if eggbound it can cause death.

Some are operated on, we have a forum buddy HD who had his girl operated on, and did well.
But some don't do as well. I sure hope she just layed her 2 and that was all she had.

Let us know, hope she's done and is FINE !! Goodluck, Eve

As far as bumps inside her goes, I suppose I can feel a couple of them but I am not sure if they are eggs or organs. I don't know what I should be looking for.

I don't particularly notice any signs of her being sick (she ate two crickets and has been drinking pedialyte). She was a bit slower (stays inside her cave longer) than usual today, but she will usually do that after laying eggs anyway.

Is laying such a small quantity of eggs normal? Even after having laid multiple times before in larger batches?

I am considering taking her to the vet tomorrow... X-rays should be able to confirm for me. I just hope it isn't too late. I would be devastated...

And I have been reading HD's postings on her girl's operation. Thanks for referring me to that. But I still can't find details as to how long an egg takes to calcify, or how to look for eggs inside (where are they located usually), or if laying only two eggs is abnormal... etc. (plus the new search engine is terrible!)

I guess I'll just keep posting on here and looking out for more answers.

Thanks much! - Lilia.
