Waterfall in Beardie tank?

Justin Nov 30, 2003 02:13 AM

hi, I was just over at one of my friends house and he was thinking of installing a waterfall into his beardie tank. He said that it increases natural drinking habits, but it also raises humidity. I was just wondering if this is a good idea with them being desert reptiles and all. The website is:

Thanks in Advance

I would not put a waterfall in. If he wants water movement, ask him to look at the vibrating dishes. Also, if he is trying to get his beardie to learn to drink out of a dish, what I did was buy one of those water dishes with the cup on top that spills into the reservoir. I put an ice cube on top of the cup, and when it melted, it splashed into the water, creating the movement I needed for Dino to realize he can drink there. I only had to do it once. He drinks regularly from it.

humidity shouldn't be a problem if the tank has an open/screen top as any moisture will rise above this. the only problem with waterfalls is that it would have to be cleaned all the time since the beardie will probably take to defacating in it everyday.

I don't think it would be a good idea. Like some of the others have said, the humidity would be higher (in itself that isn't too much of a problem). The waterfall would have to be cleaned every day due to feces. Another problem I would forsee is the beardie kicking sand/substrate into the waterfall and burning out the motor. Overall, I don't think a beardie is the best choice to use a waterfall with. How about some anoles, White's tree frogs or a chameleon? I bet they'd love it!

Have fun!
