problems with handling

i am having problems handlng my leo(yoshi), when i go to feed him he doesnt mind my hands actually he doesnt mind my hands at all in his cage. When i put my hand infront of him he licks it and investiges like he should(i think). But when he is on my hand i try to pick him up and he kind of freaks out and tries to jump out. can anyone give me any advice?
