That's Pituophis melanoleucus. Subspecies would be dependent upon point of origin.

got it at a petstore in NJ..all that they could tell me was it was a gopher snake..they didnt even know the age..

Did they know whether or not it's captive-bred? With captive-bred snakes, unless you're buying from reputable people who tell you exactly what the snake is, it's a gamble trying to assign a subspecies to it, as it may well be a hybrid. Sometimes, this is the case even at the species level...
