Quick question

ShadowMcCarthy Nov 30, 2003 05:12 PM

This may not be the best place to ask this question, but everyone in here seems to know what they are talking about, and this is one of the most active forums, so I hope to get a quick answer.

Would an old 25-watt heater from my turtle's old tank work to keep a birdbath (outside) from freezing in the winter?

Thanks!

It probably would work fine... but if you're the only warm water source in miles, you'd better be ready for a lot of bird traffic. This could cause them to splash your water out very fast...leaving the heater to possibly burn up. Then again, I dunno that it would burn up out in the cold.

Maybe you could rig up a big water jug that would automatically refill the birdbath. Look at the automatic filling dog water bowls for ideas on how to make it.
