Hi all, I currently have 4 res. 2 of them the shells around the edges are smooth, and the other two I just acquired from someone, have jagged edges?? I found a pic in a book on water turtles at the local herp store, and it claimed they were RES. Does this mean they are from a different location, or are they possibly cross bred with another type?? These 2 supposedly came from Florida about 3 years ago from what I am told???

i have two 8" female red ears.one i bought as a 4"baby from a pet store 5 years ago.she is smooth.the other has a jagged shell(not like a spinosa).she was w.c. & came from a local river.her shell is also slightly pyramided.my ltc girls' shell is smooth.
don't sweat it if it's healthy.

It just means they were overfed, if they get too much protein in their diet their shells split as they grow faster than the shell can.
