I was out collecting moss today from the creek bed and found this really old bush that someone cut down and had burned. Looks like some sort of boxwood to me. Only the bark was burned and the thin limbs of course, but I brought it home and cleaned it up by taking the limbs under 1/4" thick off and then sandblasted the whole thing. It took 3 hours to sandblast it in a Blast-it-All.
The great part about that is that I found it with my 5 year old son Austin while we were out on the Honda Z-50. So, to get it back I had to get him to hold it on the handlebars and let me drive around him. Thats an even funnier picture when you know I'm 6'5" tall. Looked like some kind of mechanical jackelope coming home.
It is about 2 foot by 2 foot square. In the picture that is a 65 pound sheppard/greyhound mix for size reference.
I cant wait to get this thing in the tank and sprayed down with some moss mix. It'll look great in the 150 extra tall that I have. It seems to be a really hard wood, as it doesnt bend at all, only breaks when bent. The trunk is 4 inches thick, it has to be 35 or 40 years old.
Tell me what you think of this thing. I'm pretty exited about finding it and getting it cleaned that nicely. I've got some wood in that tank already and the leucomelas climb all over it. They spend about 50% of their time 2 foot off the ground.
Matt (yes, another one!
