For Mark Bayless (re: Skritch)

Jeff Lemm Nov 30, 2003 07:12 PM

Hi Mark,
Sorry to do it here, but I only have your email at work. I took some pretty decent measures of Skritch (ornate Nile) today and remembered that you asked me for them eons ago. He has slimmed way down to a muscular 55 lbs. (from a fat 70 when I got him). Total length is about 77.5 inches and SVL is about 34.5 inches. Hope it helps,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Many thanks for the info - you know this fellow is most likely the size record for this species? I bet you do! His appetite must be tremendous!

Many Thanks Jeff,
mbayless

Hi guys,
He is a tank. Mark, I bet he is at least the largest captive ornate. Its great that he is "tame". He doesn't eat too much, although he enjoyed the neighbor's rooster. As far as a pic, I took an updated one yesterday, but I don't have a site to post from. I can email it to someone if they want to post it. Thanks,
Jeff

That's one big mofo of a lizard! You should post that photo of you holding it now and again, as a warning to all of those kids wanting to buy niles or ornate niles. Mind you, they may just think it'd be cool to have a lizard that big in their room.

I met that monitor a couple of years ago at a barbeque.
He was wandering around the back yard checking everyone out. I have never been so nervous eating a hamburger in my life.

Glad to hear he is doing well Jeff. I agree with DK, it would be very good for people to see pics of you holding him.
