So, i asked my parents to go and buy 2 compact flourescents for my setup, though i forgot to tell them what wattage.

Well, they came back with 2 60W bulbs! Is this too much? It doesnt even seem like theres much heat, if any at all so far, but the lights havnt been on a long time.

Should i return it? The setup is a 20 gallon high BTW.

Nasr, Ive got a single 65 watt over my 20 high. Works well.

I don't see any problems with "too much" light. More light you have, better your plants will do, heck i have 440 watts VHO goin in over my 75 gal dart tank. Have fun with the new lights!

I asked because ive read somewhere that even a 20W CF is overkill.

The 60 watts listed is probably only a comparision to the amount of light a 60 watt incadenscent would put out. My 75 watt CF bulbs are only 19 watts. For some reason, that is how they market these. The actual wattage of the compact bulb is probably only 10-15 watts. BTW, I have two 75watt CF bulbs over a 10 gallon and it still doesn't even come close to the amount of light from my 55 watt CF from AH supply.

I have built a hood for my 15gal high, that is not complete yet, I will post some pictures when it is. So far I have spent about $30 or so with shipping. This is for 2x13watt, I ended up with some free parts so that is why I did not go with 1 larger bulb. I have ordered 2 6400k bulbs from AHSUPPLY, and all the parts should be here some time this week.
