Their thirty gallon was getting a little cramped. Funny thing is, they spend most of their time basking on the log on which they sit in the photo. So much for taking advantage of their leg room...
Thanks for letting me boast!

I really like that cage! Did you build it yourself? Good job! The one thing that I would add to this set up is a wire cage around that light bulb. They may try to get too close to it and could burn themselves... Other than that I love it!
Thanks for sharing!!

as was said: take care that they can *NOT* get to the bulbs.
BD's are very "atracted" to a bright light.... and will sometimes do very odd things to get to the light.
when I try to get my guy to sleep sometimes he starts going ape if he sees a light outside of his cage that he can't get to...
other times he tries to jump up INTO his UVB florecent tube...
and it's not that bright even..... :-/ he gets really ticked when he cant get the light to let him in
also you may want to add some light to the new cage.... as above:
they are drawn to the brightest part of the cage when they can "see" a bright area...... it may be that you need to add just one normal florecent strip to "even out" the light levels... so that the bright basking area does not "stand out" to them as the place where the sun is at.... if you get what I mean?

This space reserved for future use...
Thanks to both of you for the input! Yes, I made it myself, with a little help from my Dad and his power tools! (My husband and I don't have room for that much.)
I guess it didn't even occur to me that the reason they like the spot they stay in was because of the brightness of the light. I actually DO have a flourescent light between the other two (gotta have that UVB!), but I guess it needs to be longer, or brighter, or something. The only problem is, there isn't any more space between the other two lights, and that seems to be the combination needed to maintain the heat. Any suggestions?
Thank you for the suggestion regarding shielding the lights, too. My original plan called for the branches to be lower, but my son pointed out that they missed the tall branch from their old cage, so I moved it. I will definitly take care of that.
Thanks again.

that is 21 inches long and i think i only paid 25 for it...
it comes with 2 bulbs i kept on origional and put in a reptisun in the other slot and its nice and bright...
my hubby didnt have much difficulty installing it, he drilled two holes and screwed it in the top.
good luck..and nice work on the enclousure.....

Life is what happens when you are making other plans.......
I have a double four footer from HD as well. Regular flourescent in one and reptisun in the other side. It will make the entire enclosure bright instead of just the basking/ heated areas. They will utilize the entire cage with more lighting.
